32. Groove Armada - THe Best Oft

This is an album full of surprises! The first surprise was that the only track that I thought I knew by Groove Armada was "Superstyin". This is the album opener.

The second surprise for me was that the track "I see you baby" is the track used in the really annoying TV ads for Renault cars. Well I guess you either love it or hate it. Me? I hate it despite the "shakin your ass". The third surprise was that I actually know (and love) a considerably large number of the tracks but didn't know they were by Groove Armada!

All of the songs that I know must have featured on a chill out album or perhaps on a Cafe Del Mar compilation. For example "At the river" is super chilled and dreamy and then "My friend" has a mellow beat that I just love. Next up is the exception "Purple Haze" which rocks out and I remember Oisin Van Gelderen playing it for me at a wave event over in Ireland.

Then comes " Chicago " which is definitely a track for returning from a road trip with that kind of exhausted yet satisfied feeling after hours in the surf and the prospect of a long drive home before going to sleep in your own warm comfy bed. The final surprise for me was "Think Twice" which is truly inspired and features some atmospheric piano.

"Inside my mind (blue skies)" and "Little by Little" take me to a warm Sunday afternoon type feeling. This album is simply a collection of upbeat dance tracks and chilled laid back beats - the perfect way to end a weekend.
