Kenya Cup 2005
08/12/04

I am really stoked to be invited to the first Kenya Cup Windsurfing and Kitesurfing invitational event that is going to take place in early January next year. I will be joining Kitesurfers including Kirsty Jones (UK), and Richard Boudia (FR) and fellow Naish team mates Ian Gray(UK) & Terry Luxton (UK). It is promised that we will following in the footsteps of Livingston and Hemingway by exploring this great East African wilderness. Award-winning extreme photographer (and Kenyan veteran) David Sims and writer Siobhan Pestano will be on-hand to record the action.

The event is organised by David Sims and Craig Rodgers from Extreme Safari, the sports and adventure travel specialists. We will be staying at "Nomads" which is set in tropical rainforest on the edge of the Indian Ocean at Diani beach. Nomads is a laid back eco-resort and home to kite and windsurf centre, H2O Extreme. The local "Kaskazi" trade wind will give us the chance to rip it up in the flat-water lagoon or wave ride on the outside reef, We will get to compete in the inaugural "Kenyan Cup", which will include Best Trick and Wave-Riding disciplines for both Kitesurfing and Windsurfing.

At some point during our stay, we will get the chance to take a break from chasing wind and waves, and start chasing wildlife instead on safari. So I am really looking forward to the trip and tracking down the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo).
