Tow-in Windsurfing
at Triple Crown!
08/05/04
I am hanging out in Ireland at the first round of the UKWA Triple Crown. Many
of the competitors were out here a week early and scored epic super windy conditions.
Unfortunatly I had to work and arrived ready for the start of the event and
a forecast of no wind. Friday the NW wind was not enough for a competition but
was just enough for the keen to plod out to the reef break" shitties".
I was on a Naish Playmate 115 and a 6.8 Edge and spent 3 solid hours having
fun catching waves.
Saturday arrived with absolutely no wind at all. The event organisers
made a good call for us to all go to Gowlane and wait and see if the wind picked
up enough for some riding on the small but consistant waves. While we were there
I volunteered to try and have a go at Tow-in windsurfing behind a ZapCat! We
towed the kit out through the break and then tried to work out how to get up
and going in no wind at all! After a few failed attempts we managed to work
out a way to get up and going and then Graham and Jamo did a great job of towing
me into a great wave which I managed to ride all the way to the beach. We were
all stoked that we'd managed to do it - and it definately opened up the possibilities
of tow-in windsurfing in no wind but nice waves!
The Forecast tomorrow is not great for competition but we may get some wind
for a late evening session. Fingers crossed!
